Being a mother for me is wonderful. Often, I think of the times when my son was young – trips to the beach, playtime in the little plastic pool with a Tike slide, magnifying glasses and ant exploration, playdough, paints, crayons and of course Tonka trucks. Before naptime it was rides to the opening music of Bonanza on TV and nighttime prayer and Bible stories before bed. The best snuggles in the world. I know as I write this not everybody has great childhood memories. For some, mothers were absent. However, God brought you through to today.

As Christ Followers, we can grasp hold to the wonderful things that God has for us. He is for us. He is with us. He is never absent. In fact, in His Word He says, “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18) We are able, to have a wonderful relationship with God. He is able, to heal our hurts. He can fill any role within the deepest parts of our being. Even for the heart that needs a mother —God is there for you.

Life can be hard, but God has a way of bringing us through the darkest parts. He loves us so much that He made a way for us to live. I mean truly, live. Not just exist. We do not have to hold on to what we did not have or do not have – we can let go and let God be our “everything.” Looking at reality, He allowed His son to become the Savior of the world so that we could live. Truly live this very day.

Mothers throughout the body of Christ are (many times) mothers to those who have none or to those whose moms’ have moved on into eternity. God places people on their hearts and they have “divine instinctiveness” to love on others.

This weekend as you celebrate Mother’s Day, remember that God loves you. Remember those that God has used to touch your life in some special way. Remember those that may need to know God is there for them. Remember that God created Mothers and they are special.

On a special note, there are Mothers without anyone to love on them this weekend. Proverbs 23 instructs, “…do not despise your mother when she is old.” Remember to give them a hug, a call or a card. Drink coffee with them or invite them to lunch. When you honor moms, God is also honored. He loves for His children to show love. I say, “Love to all the moms out there today!”
