The SolUnesco Foundation recently announced awarding $17,500 to seven programs and services from six organizations serving Charlotte County residents in a press release sent to The Charlotte Gazette.

“We provided this funding through the SolUnesco Strengthening Communities Awards. The SolUnesco Foundation was created to support and engage community residents, business owners, schools and county services in the areas where SolUnesco develops solar projects,” the release cited.

The winners include: Southside Virginia Community College, Piedmont Senior Resources, Charlotte County Relay for Life, Randolph-Henry Scholarship Foundation, Charlotte County Recreation Association and the Charlotte County Education Foundation. Awards will fund college scholarships, career coaches, teacher development, a new playground, a banquet dinner for cancer survivors, the cost of veterinary care and pet food for seniors and essential home repairs for seniors.

The SolUnesco Foundation invited all nonprofits, charities, and schools that serve residents of Charlotte County to submit pressing needs in their community and how their program, service, or special project addressed these needs and enhanced the lives of residents and the community. A panel of judges reviewed all applicants for their innovative approaches, thoroughness of planning and potential benefits.

“We all benefit when we support deserving members of our community in need of assistance,” said SolUnesco CEO Francis Hodsoll. “This foundation is a way to support the incredible efforts already being made to enhance the lives of Virginia residents. And it’s a way to encourage new ideas and innovations that need early support.”
