At 7:05 a.m. on Friday, March 25 Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 501 a mile and a half north of Route 704 in Halifax County.

According to VSP a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling south on Route 501 when it ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road. It then traveled down an embankment and struck several trees.

The driver, Shavon J. Givens, 35, of Alton, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
