R-H girls’ varsity tennis on winning streak

The Randolph-Henry (R-H) girls’ varsity tennis team hosted their first season opener scrimmage on Tuesday, March 8 against William Campbell winning 9-0.

No. 1 – Emily Tharpe defeated Holly Clark 8-0.

No. 2 – Mary Scruggs defeated Julie Jennings 8-0.

No. 3 – Suin Kim defeated Megan Williams 8-1.

No. 4 – Madeline Clatterbuck defeated Ate’sa Bailey 8-1.

No. 5 – Kate Hamilton defeated Raven Shumaker 8-2.

No. 6 – Sally Lawson defeated Audrey Updike 8-2.

In doubles, Tharpe/Scruggs defeated Clark/Jennings 8-0.

Kim/Clatterbuck defeated Williams/Bailey 8-0. Hamilton/Lawson defeated Shumaker/Updike 8-5.

On Thursday, March 10th, the Ladies hosted their second scrimmage against Halifax winning 6-

No.1 Tharpe, No.2 Scruggs, No.3 Kim and No.4 Clatterbuck won in singles matches, and No.1 Tharpe/Scruggs and No. 2 Kim/Clatterbuck won in doubles.

On Monday March 14, the Lady Statesmen tennis team traveled to Halifax for their first regular-season match-winning 7-2.

No. 1 – Emily Tharpe defeated Alyssa Heddings 8-1.

No. 2 – Mary Scruggs defeated Christina Bruce 8-0.

No. 3 – Suin Kim defeated Myah Forest 8-3.

No.4 – Madeline Clatterbuck defeated Meredith Duffer 8-5.

No. 5 – Kate Hamilton defeated Kate Bishop 8-4.

No. 6 – Abigail Bausch (Halifax) defeated Sally Lawson 8-1.

In doubles, Tharpe/Scruggs defeated Heddings/Forest 8-2.

Kim/Clatterbuck defeated Bruce/Bishop 8-1. Duffer/Baisch (Halifax) defeated Hamilton/Lawson 8-4.

The girls varsity tennis team will be traveling for the next week with away matches on Wednesday, March 23 against Nelson and Thursday, March 24 against Thomas Jefferson HS (Richmond).

Their next home match will be Friday, March 25 against Heritage.
