VSP Investigating Fatal Crash

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a Halifax County crash that claimed the life of a Roanoke man.

At 1:52 p.m. on Jan. 12, VSP responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of James D. Hagood Road and Terry’s Bridge Road in Halifax County.

A 2008 Ford Edge was traveling east on James D. Hagood Rd. when it struck a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was entering the intersection from S. Terry’s Bridge Rd. The Trailblazer failed to stop at the stop sign. The impact of the crash caused the Trailblazer to overturn.

The driver of the Ford, David W. Smith, 68, of Clover, Va., and a passenger, Christian T. Smith, 22, were flown to Duke Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Neither were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the Trailblazer, Sean P. Keoughan, 34, of Roanoke, Va., died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
