Crash results in DUI charge

A 22-year-old Phenix man has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash on Nov. 6 in Charlotte County.

According to Virginia State Police (VSP), at 2:08 a.m. on Nov. 6, VSP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Red House Road approximately a half-mile north of Patrick Henry Hwy.

A 2004 Honda Civic was traveling north on Red House Road. When a 1997 Ford F150 backed out of a private drive in front of the oncoming Honda. The Honda couldn’t avoid the Ford and struck it.

The driver of the Honda, Jackson M. Roach, 20, of Charlotte Court House, was transported for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt.

A passenger in the Honda, Gavin M. Valania, 18, was transported for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ford, Payton T. Lipscomb, 22, of Phenix, was not injured in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt.

According to VSP, Lipscomb has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

The crash remains under investigation.
