Close to two years after the days of operation for county convenience centers were reduced to save funds, they are all open daily again.

The decision to reopen all centers seven days a week was made by the Board of Supervisors (BOS) during its budget process.

According to Assistant County Administrator Monica Elder, funds to reopen the centers on an every-day basis were included in the budget for the new fiscal year, which started July 1.

Current hours for all centers are now Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It was during the June 2019 meeting of the BOS that supervisors voted to reduce the number of operation hours and close several centers during the week.

During the June 2019 meeting, Supervisor Donna Fore said she felt it was not good government to raise taxes and then cut services to the county’s citizens.

“We made a commitment to the citizens of the county to provide goods and services,” she said. “This is a service that we are declining support on.”

Fore went on to say that she did not feel that the savings were enough to warrant the grief that citizens would undergo.

According to county staff, it is estimated the county would save about $37,000 annually for each day of the week the seven convenience centers were closed.
