With his experiences in law enforcement, business management, emergency services and holding positions on boards in multiple capacities, Larry Newcomb said he feels he is the right candidate for the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors.

Newcomb has filed to seek the Wyllliesburg/Red Oak District seat on the board that is up for election this November.

The seat is currently held by one-term supervisor Kay Pierantoni. She announced earlier in the year she would not seek reelection.

Newcomb said he was considering a run for the seat in the past, but it was in December 2020 that he fully decided.

“I would like to see our county move forward.  We need growth and stability without having our citizens, and our children obligated to extremely high taxes that many can’t afford,” Newcomb said. “We have nothing to keep our young people occupied and wanting to stay here after their education.  We already know our taxes are increasing, businesses are struggling or closing, and we have to go outside of our county to obtain some necessities.”

Newcomb said he remembers when the county had more activities than what is available now. 

“We had local dances, and each town had their own event,” Newcomb said. “I looked forward especially to the Earth Day celebration each year because we all came together as a community to support each other.  I want to see us not only as a community, but our county as a whole come together once again. I believe we can all come together and make our community a better place as a whole. “

Newcomb said what sets him apart is that he is not a career politician with an image to uphold.

“The majority of those that know me personally know that I have always been a stand-up person,” Newcomb said. “My door is always open, and my phone is always on.”

Newcomb is currently employed as an Advanced Emergency Services provider with the Charlotte County Rescue Squad (CCRS) and has a combined 29 years of service to the community in the medical field as a volunteer and now as a paid provider.

In addition to working in the medical field, Newcomb has served on the CCRS board in multiple capacities, including president, vice president, and administrator for public affairs and patient billing of insurance.

Newcomb will face opposition in this November election as Hazel Bowman Smith is also seeking to represent the Wylliesburg/Red Oak District on the BOS.
