Algeier, Scruggs are state runners up

Randolph-Henry tennis team members senior Grace Algeier and sophomore Mary Scruggs finished as state runner ups at the VHSL State Tennis Tournament held at Virginia Tech June 10-12.

Algeier represented Randolph-Henry and Region A as the 2A Regional Singles Champion.

She began the tourney by defeating Grace Knighton, Region B champion from Page County 6-1, 6-1. In the 2A state championship Algeier faced Harper Minarik, the Region C Champion. Algeier lost 6-2, 6-1. Algeier ended her senior season as the VHSL 2A Singles State Runner-Up.

Algeier and Scruggs were the Region A doubles champions and played in the VHSL 2A State Doubles tournament, Friday June 11. The duo defeated Page County’s Knighton/Jenkins, Region B champion 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals. Algeier/Scruggs faced Harper/Adams Region C champion from Radford in the state finals. Algeier/Scruggs lost 6-1, 6-2. Algeier/Scruggs finished as the VHSL 2A Doubles State Runners-Up.
