Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Most of my life I have heard many Christ followers say that they do not know what their purpose is. What is it that God wants me to do?

As we continue to look at Adam and Eve, they had a specific purpose.

God created Adam in the image and likeness of God and he put him straight to work.

“God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds of the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’” (Genesis 1: 27, 28)

Later we see that was not all, he also was in charge of naming all of plant life and the animals; plus tending to all vegetation. Adam and Eve were very busy – they managed the earth, so to speak.

I think many times Christ followers are tasked and they do not really even realize it.  For example, most people equate a purpose from God to mean “ministry” as in a preacher, teacher, missionary, deacon…etc. However, looking at Adam and Eve their purpose was to oversee the earth.  They were designed and created for that vocation and God spent time with them and they knew Him.  So many times people have expressed they were not “doing enough” or “being enough” because they did not have a “Christianese” (church position) title?

God tells us in Matthew 28, to go out into all the world, reaching people for Jesus and teaching people about Jesus.  When you look at the Greek translation it literally means “as you go.”  So, as you do life, you are commissioned to reach/teach people.  As the Holy Spirit teaches you truth about God-you apply it to your life.  Then you simply share what you know with other people “as you go.”

For example, let us say you are mechanic.  You can be an example as you live out your life before other people.  You can say, “Thank you Jesus” for your meals, you can make sure you live Godly before others because you are following Jesus and as the Holy Spirit gives you opportunity you share the gospel with others.

God will use a person in whatever field they are in.  What field are you in? A cashier, a homemaker, an executive or maybe like Adam; a farmer/rancher/ or marine biologist?   What is it that God has gifted you to do? Commit that to the Lord and your purpose will be made clear.
