I heard a pastor say, ‘Christians are like trains – always on the move, always in a rush and always late.’ Have you ever said or heard someone say, “There just isn’t enough time in the day” or “I’ll try to find time”? We say it, as if God has somehow short-changed us on hours in our day. The truth is we all have 24 hours in a day, and it is up to us how we manage our time. Sometimes, I do not put thought into management where God’s time is concerned. Sometimes, I make bad choices that do not shortchange my day but shortchange God.

Each Christ follower is given time. Time to do what God desires us to do. He never overloads us or causes us to have too much on our plates. God does not have emergency meetings. He is in complete control of the universe. In our human condition we make the wrong choices with the time that is given to us. Our whole point of being on earth is to glorify God with our lives. Godly time management is the same as managing life. It is one in the same.

The Word says, “So teach us to consider our mortality, so that we might live wisely.” (Psalm 90:12). As Christ followers we know that our time on earth is limited. Our choices in life matter. What we choose to do with our time impacts our lives and the lives of others. Ecclesiastes 3:1, explains “For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth.”

Over the past few years, I have been amazed as people who profess to love God deliberately choose, other things and people over God. It is more important to do laundry, wash the truck, sleep than to spend time with God and the family of God. God gives everyone 24 hours in each day.

God knows how to get our attention. I am not sure where you are in life, but I have been guilty of being a train: on the move, rushing and late. As I grow closer to God, I am learning how to make God No. 1 in my life: glorified in the laundry, glorified in washing the truck and glorified in the resting too! It makes an impact when I choose to put Him first, above any chore or even above another family member. At the end of life, when I stand before God, it will be without anyone or anything. As I enter 2022, I pray all Christ followers will be mindful to choose God first.
