Christopher C. Harrison and Matilda Benson Harrison were blessed with the gift of their daughter’s birth Lucinda Matilda Harrison on September 27, 1924 in Ridgeway, South Carolina.  She was the 11th of 12 children, and the last surviving sibling. At age two, the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where she was raised.

During her early adulthood, she moved to Washington, D.C. She later moved to Los Angeles, California for a year, but returned back to D.C. because LA was too far from family. She would later meet and marry, Samuel Leon Shepperson, in January 1949. They were married for forty-three years, until his death in 1992. During this union, they had two devoted daughters.

Over the years, Lucinda held various positions in the Federal Government including the Office of Strategic Services, a wartime intelligence agency of the United States and predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency. After many years with the Federal Government, she switched careers to pursue her first love, retail sales.

In 1964, the family joined Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. where Lucinda sang on the choir and was a devoted member of United Methodist Women Organization.

She retired after the birth of grandson, Chinua. She was an activist and volunteered with various organizations within the community. Participating with Barney Circle NWA (Neighborhood Watch Association), she walked with the Orange Hat Patrol for fourteen years and The Guardian Angels. She was an Ambassador with AARP main office in D.C., and an AARP member of Chapter 2881. She facilitated support from her neighbors for victims of Katrina, polio, cancer and other organizations, just to name a few. She also marched with The Late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On June 18, 2020, she was called Home for her Great Reward! She leaves to mourn two daughters, Muriel Shepperson and Emily Shelton (Charles Jamal); two grandchildren Chinua and Ain; two great grandchildren, Kai and King; and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Charlotte Court House. Condolences may be expressed at www.JeffressFuneralHome.com. Arrangements were by Jeffress Funeral Home of Charlotte Court House.
