Crash claims life of Phenix man

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Phenix man.

According to a release from the VSP, the accident occurred Tuesday, May 19 in the 2900 block of Red House Road in Charlotte County around 9:45 p.m. when a 1995 Toyota Corolla, driven by John P. Risden, 65, was traveling south on Route 727 when it ran off the right side of the road.

The driver overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to cross over the road, run off the left side, and strike a tree.
Risden died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
