Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS) will receive $609,305.37 as part of the CARES Act Funding for Virginia Schools.

In all, $238.6 million has been allocated to Virginia Schools.

The federal Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, was approved by Congress and signed into law March 27.

According to the Virginia Department of Education, amounts for each division are based on the formula used to allocate funding for schools under Title I of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Approximately $23.9 million is reserved for statewide efforts to expand distance learning by increasing access to technology and through the development of resources for students, families and educators.

CCPS Superintendent Robbie Mason said the school system would be using the CARES Act funds to purchase Chromebooks for students and to provide instructional technology for students next school term.

“These funds provide us an opportunity to help with distance learning,” Mason said. “That is something we would not be able to do without these funds.”

Superintendent of Public Instruction for Virginia James Lane further said, “The CARES Act funding will enable our schools to move forward with initiatives to address gaps and inequities that have been brought into clear focus as a result of COVID-19.”
