As of Tuesday, April 21, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) was reporting that there were eight cases of COVID-19 in Charlotte County. That number has remained the same for close to a week now.

Of those eight, the VDH is reporting no hospitalizations or deaths.

To date, there have been 9,630 confirmed cases in Virginia; at least 1,581 of the patients have been hospitalized.

In Virginia, 324 patients have died, which is a case fatality rate of 3.4%.

Virginia saw its first case of the virus March 7.

Long-term care facilities have been hit the hardest with the VDH reporting 939 cases and 77 deaths.

The Charlotte Gazette reached out to the Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Keysville to inquire how they are working to keep patients safe, but have not heard back from the administrator has of press time.

Just last week, VDH was assisting a long-term care facility in neighboring Prince Edward County after two deaths occurred. The facility has said they do have residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. H. Robert Nash, Piedmont Health District Director, said he could not confirm which Prince Edward County facility the deaths and positive test results occurred at.

In Mecklenburg County, the Southside Health District is reporting 68 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and one death as of Tuesday, April 21.
