The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors (BOS) will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday, April 13, at 6 p.m., but County Administrator Dan Witt is strongly discouraging citizens from attending the meeting in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I strongly encourage people not to come out with the governor’s Stay-at-Home order and paticipate in other, safer ways,” Witt said. “However, there is room for up to eight citizens to be present at a meeting.

According to Witt, seating at Monday evenings’ meeting will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Citizens must sit in a designated seat, allowing for six feet of separation.

Witt says there are other ways for citizens to participate in the BOS meeting and not be present.

Written comments for public comment times and public hearings can be mailed to the board at P.O. Box 608, Charlotte Court House, VA, 23923 or dropped off in the drop box at the door of the Administration Building at 250 LeGrande Avenue.

Comments should be limited to 500 words.

Comments can also be emailed to publiccomments@charlottecountyva.gov.

An emailed comment must also adhere to a 500-word limit.

Voicemail comments can be left to be played to the board by calling (434) 542-5118.

“Commenters are asked to note that a three-minute time limit will apply to public comments during public hearings and individuals should leave their name, district and what specific public hearing they are commenting about,” Witt said.

Comments must be received by the methods listed above and are due by noon Monday, April 13.

According to Witt, citizens will also have the opportunity to listen in on meetings and public hearings through a call-in system.

The call-in number is 1-312-626-6799, and the  meeting ID number used by the county is 378-845-4554.

“We will also provide a link on our website www.charlotteva.com that callers can use to log into the live audio on their computer,” Witt added.

The BOS meeting will also be recording and uploaded to the county’s website, where it can be downloaded or listened to.

The BOS currently has the policy to accept public comments at the end of each meeting in addition to the beginning of the meetings, however, public comments at the end of the session are discontinued until further notice
