Matthews named Kenbridge Town Manager

Former Keysville resident Tony Matthews has been named the town manager of Kenbridge following the departure of former Town Manager Robyn Fowler on Oct. 31. Fowler announced her resignation in October stating she would be taking a position at Fort Pickett’s Foreign Affairs Security Training Center.
The Gazette reached out to Matthews in regards to his new position and he had this to say, “I want to help the residents of Kenbridge by being available when needed.” Matthews also stated he has an open-door policy for the residents of Kenbridge.
Matthews who is originally from Keysville, moved to Kenbridge in 1996. He served in the Navy from 1991 to 1996 as an avionics technician. Since then he has worn many hats to include owner/operator of Matthews Lawn Care for 20 years, captain of the Kenbridge Volunteer Fire Department, league director for Community Girls Softball for 20 years, district director for Dixie Softball for the last three years, and numerous community service projects.
Matthews, and his wife Beth, have eight children ranging in age from 12 to 25.
When asked what he hopes to accomplish as the town manager of Kenbridge Matthews said, “I hope to be in a position to help residents when they call on me. I also hope to get the citizens more active, along with encouraging Lunenburg businesses to engage more often with the Lunenburg Chamber of Commerce. I will be working to provide cleaner streets, fill empty buildings with new businesses and have more outside activities.”
