Election 2019 has ended in Charlotte County, and results are in for the county’s eight precincts, according to unofficial results from the Charlotte County Voter Registrar’s office and the Virginia Department of Elections.

There’s a new sheriff for Charlotte County as Royal S. Freeman was victorious with 3,033 votes over J. E. “Joe” Carey, Sr. who received 1,013 votes. There were 7 write-ins.

When it came to the Referendum on a Levy on Local Food, and Beverage Tax for a maximum tax rate of 4% on all prepared food and beverage county-wide voters said No. 2,776 voted No and 987 voted Yes.

For a contested seat on the board of supervisors in the Bacon/Saxe District Will D. Garnett will take his seat on the board. Garnett is a newcomer to the board of supervisors. Garnett received 277 votes to J. Shane Newcombe’s 264 votes. There were no write-ins.

In the Cullen/Red House District, M. Anthony “Tony” Reeves overcame Cornell B. “Brick” Goldman and Nadine R. Pannell with 243 votes. Goldman received 184 votes while Pannell received 69 votes. Write-in votes were 54.

In Drakes Branch, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Garland H. “Butch” Hamlett, Jr. was unopposed. Hamlett received 336 votes. There were 113 write-ins.

Incumbent Gary Walker, who represents the County Seat District on the board of supervisors, received 553 votes. Walker was unopposed.

For School Board seats, incumbent JonPaul H. Berkley representing the Bacon/Saxe District, newcomer, Anglea Bernice Cook representing the County Seat District and incumbent Gloria J. Talbott representing the Drakes Branch District were all unopposed. Berkley received 459 votes while Cook received 556 votes. Talbott yielded 425 votes.

The Cullen/Red House seat of the School Board was contested. Russell S. “Scotty” Hamlett won his seat over Alicia G. Adams.

Hamlett obtained 359 votes while Adams received 173 votes. There were 2 write-ins.

Treasurer, Patricia P. Berkeley was unopposed and received 3,625 votes. There were 25 write-in votes.

Commonwealth’s Attorney, William E. Green, Jr. received 3,498 votes and was also unopposed. There were 49 write-in votes.

Commissioner of the Revenue, Naisha P. Carter, received 3,586 votes. Carter was unopposed and there were 87 write-in votes.

For the Soil and Water Conservation Director for the Southside District Davey Ferrell received 2,042 votes and Eugene D. Wells, Jr. received 2,464 votes. There were 28 Write-in votes.

On the State Level for the 15th Senate District, Frank Ruff received 2,671 votes over Virginia M. Smith, who received 1,329 votes.

For the 60th District House seat James, E. Edmunds II received 2,674, Janie S. Zimmerman received 1,309 votes.
