Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity golf team improved to 6-0 overall for the 2019 season after defeating Cumberland County High School and Bluestone High School in a match shortened by lightning at Kinderton Country Club on Monday.
The teams concluded play after six holes. The Statesmen had a 106 team score, the Dukes shot a 141 and the Barons shot a 142.
“I believe we might have had the best score of the year, really, because through six holes, we had a 25, 26, 27 and 28,” Statesmen Head Coach Kelly Powell said of his team’s top four individual scores. “… I feel like it would have been close to being our best score of the year, possibly.”
Randolph-Henry junior Brenden Francisco shot the 25, junior Caleb Shook shot the 26, sophomore Thomas Johnson shot the 27 and junior Jordan Colbert shot the 28.
Through three matches, Powell said, “I guess if I had some surprise, it would be the two freshmen that actually made the top six. I’m pleasantly pleased with everybody, but the two freshmen that weren’t here last year, they’re doing well now and contributing to the team.”
Those freshmen are Austin Queensberry and Lindsey Towery.
