After police sought to negotiate the release of a man who barricaded himself in a Lunenburg home, Eric Rodney Lee, 21, of Keysville, was arrested Monday evening.

The Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force was following up on a criminal investigation and received tips that Lee, who was wanted in Charlotte County, was visiting a friend at a residence at 2600 block of Double Bridges Road.

Lee, according to Virginia State Police (VSP), “barricaded himself inside a residence in the 2600 block of Double Bridges Road in Lunenburg County. Additional Virginia State Police and Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office resources responded to the scene to negotiate Lee’s safe surrender.”
Lee was taken into custody at approximately 8 p.m. without further incident, according to police. Lee was not armed with any weapons at the time of the arrest.

“An elderly woman inside the residence during the course of barricade situation was not harmed,” VSP officials said in a release Tuesday morning. “She was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.”
Corinne Geller with VSP said Tuesday that there was no evidence that Lee held the elderly woman hostage, and that Lee barricaded himself in a different part of the house than where the elderly woman was located.
Information from VSP and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office cited that Shannon Nicole Spillman, 23, of Drakes Branch, was charged at the scene with Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer.

Lee was charged with Failure to Appear in the Lunenburg Circuit Court and Distribution of Methamphetamine. Additional charges are pending completion of the investigation, according to police.
According to VSP and the sheriff’s office, the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force is comprised of Narcotics Investigators and Special Agents from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office.
