Drakes Branch District Supervisor, Garland “Butch” Hamlett Jr. has officially announced his plans to run for re-election in November.
In addition to fulfilling his responsibilities as District “C” supervisor on the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors (BOS), Hamlett Jr. or “Butch” as he is most commonly known, currently serves as the Chairman of the BOS.
Not long ago, Hamlett shared the reasons behind his re-election bid with The Charlotte Gazette.
“…I’m passionate about giving back to the community; not for me to gain anything but doing the things necessary for others to have a better life in some regard. Its better to give than to receive.”
He punctuated his response by adding, “Do the right things for the right reasons.” Hamlett’s life-long
record of civic duty is clearly listed in his “bio” on the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors webpage. It is evidence of his commitment to a life of service, not just to his immediate community, but to his country
as well.
According to the website he served four years active duty in the Army and then 26 years in the Virginia
Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He was recalled to active duty as a retired reservist, serving in
Asia during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Butch Hamlett Jr.’s service to his community of Drakes Branch and the county of Charlotte further appears as a list of his work in elected or appointed offices and volunteerism to a variety of civic organizations. Over the years he has worked or volunteered as:

for three years)

“I firmly believe that the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors must be good stewards of the citizen’s taxes,” Hamlett said, “that is a fiduciary responsibility of each BOS member.”

Hamlett believes that, “many things are needed in Charlotte County and that the Board of Supervisors
have to “prioritize and be prudent to achieve the necessary things for the county to survive.”
