Be part of the fest

The third annual Festival at Bumper’s is set to unfold Saturday in Drakes Branch, and we encourage people in the community to come out and help sustain the event’s momentum of growth.

Bumper’s owner Lisa Daniel has noted in the past, “We wouldn’t be what we are without the locals.”

She estimated that last year, the festival drew 300 people or more — a big leap from 2016 — and she said all the food vendors sold out completely.

This year, festival goers can expect music by Calvin and Company of Concord from 9-11 a.m. and Deep Creek from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The event will also feature a food truck, barbecue, crafts, yard sale vendors and Avon representatives.

Daniel indicated the festival has no more space available for additional food vendors, but it is still accepting some vendors, including those with yard sale items and crafts.

Those looking to make some sales would be wise to go if the event continues to grow. Daniel said there is no fee for vendors to set up at the festival.

“What they make is what they get; I get no money from it,” Daniel has said. “Anybody (who) wants to sell something, they can bring it out and sell it to get a little extra money because now, everybody needs extra money.”
The overall duration of the event is expanding some this year. Last year, it ran 9 a.m.-1 p.m., but Daniel noted then that Calvin and Company played until 2 p.m. This year, the festival is scheduled to run 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Daniel has made it clear in the past what motivates her to organize this event — it is a way for her store to give back to the community.

Join in on the experience Saturday at 7170 Craftons Gate Highway.
