Dietra Y. Trent Ph.D. (right) was recently presented with an associate degree in Humane Letters, conferred by the State Board for Community Colleges in recognition of distinguished achievement. Sid Smythe, Board Chair for Southside Virginia Community College Local Board, made the presentation during Commencement 2018. Trent is a native of Halifax County and a strong advocate for education providing opportunities for current and future generations through powerful, collaboration and meaningful partnerships at all levels. She served as Secretary for Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Terry McAuliffe. Congratulation to Trent on this most auspicious honor.
