‘Finish the season strong’

Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity baseball team carried a 14-4 overall record into this final week of the 2018 regular season.

The Statesmen went to nine innings against visiting Goochland High School on Thursday, falling 6-5.

“I thought we competed in that game,” Randolph-Henry Head Coach Joshua Barmoy said. “We went down early but battled back and gave ourselves a chance to win. Both teams made mistakes and both teams had opportunities to score more runs. The game just came down to execution, and Goochland was able to secure one more run than us that night.”

The goals for the Statesmen were clear entering Tuesday’s road game against Buckingham County High School and Thursday’s regular season closer against visiting Cumberland County High School.

“Our coaching staff has put a precedence on the word ‘finish’ throughout the year,” Barmoy said. “We have to finish the season strong and take this momentum into the playoffs. Our goal is to finish the week 2-0.”

Thursday’s game begins at 6 p.m.

Barmoy noted there will be a district tourney involving the district’s top two teams, with the higher seed hosting Monday. This looks to be a Statesmen-Bulldogs rematch.
