Mr. Russell Hiawatha Evans, Sr., age 68 of Gladys, died on April 9, 2018 in Lynchburg. He was the son of the late Mr. Arthur Tully Evans and Mrs. Mag Virginia Gaines Evans.
Russell Sr. leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Rita A. Wright (Anthony Wright, deceased) of Baltimore, Maryland, Russell H. Evans Jr. (Jossie) of Concord, North Carolina, Kimberly B. Grice of Baltimore, Maryland and Linda Evans-Hammond of Baltimore, Maryland; his stepmother, Isabel Evans of Phenix; seven sisters, Mary Elam of South Boston, Alberta Miller of Phenix, Gale Bolden (McKinley) of Brookneal, Nadine Evans of Phenix, Regina Evans of Brookneal, Sylvia Waller (Garry) of Keysville, and Rochelle Hancock (Calvin) of Phenix; eight grandchildren, Erica, Tiffany, Anissa, Russell III, Maleka, Skylanda, Jainya and Kenneth, Jr.;  an longtime companion, Ms. Patricia Elam of Brookneal; two sisters-in-law Chris Evans of Phenix, and Joyce Evans of Brookneal; one brother-in-law, Hildred Hardy of Brookneal; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

A memorial service was held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal. Arrangements were by Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal.
