Janie Childress Evans

Janie Childress Evans, 91, of Phenix passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Howard Samuel Evans.

Mrs. Evans was born in Charlotte County, September 19, 1926, daughter of the late Wirt Henry Childress and Helen Johnson Childress. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retired employee of Charlotte County Schools.

She is survived by two sons, Dean Evans (Norma), and David Evans all of Phenix; one daughter, Linda Evans Spink (Richard) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son-in-law, Carson Pollard of Madison Heights; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; a sister, Nell Simms of Drakes Branch; a sister-in-law, Berta Childress of Phenix.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Evans Pollard; three brothers, Warren, Willie John and Joe Childress; one sister, Mamie C. Evans.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Garry Sims with interment in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and following the funeral service Monday in the church fellowship hall.
