Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity and junior varsity (JV) baseball teams had results last week that fans of the program are not used to seeing.
The varsity Statesmen had a rare 0-2 week, after starting the season 4-1. They fell 3-2 to host Park View High School, of South Hill, on Friday and also lost 3-2 to host Southampton High School on April 4.
The junior varsity Statesmen improved their 2018 record to 5-1-1 last week. On April 4, they produced a 4-3 home win over Southampton, and Friday, they finished with the unusual result of a 2-2 tie against host Park View.
“It was cut short due to the varsity teams playing behind us,” Statesmen Head Coach Mark Heintzleman said. He added that the result is unfortunate, “but it happens when there are doubleheaders.”
The tie interrupted a five-game win streak for the JV Statesmen.
After hosting Goochland on Tuesday, they hit the road to face Buckingham on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Buckingham County Middle School.
For the varsity Statesmen, after visiting Goochland High School on Tuesday, they host Buckingham County High School on Thursday at 6 p.m.
