SOUTHALL MEMORIAL UMC YARD SALE, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Saxe Community Building next to the church. Hot dogs, drinks, chips and some desserts will be sold on Saturday.

September 30

BENEFIT RIDE, 9:30 a.m. at the Drakes Branch Pavilion. Southside Buffalo Soldiers will sponsor this ride for fallen Buffalo Soldier George Roberts. Cost is $15 per rider and $5 per passenger. Proceeds will assist with son Jacoby Roberts. For more information, call (804) 665-8860.

BENEFIT SERVICE, 4 p.m. at Prince Edward County High School Auditorium. James M. Carrington is battling cancer and the medical bills are continuing to accumulate. Any donation amount will be appreciated. The service will include music by A One Hundred Voice Choir and the Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, Pastor of Jericho Baptist Church, will deliver the message. ROYALLIGHTS ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Wylliesburg. The Royallights will celebrate their 61st anniversary. Everyone is invited.

HOMECOMING, 11:30 a.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Brookneal. The Rev. Henry Lipsey will bring the message. Lunch will be served after morning service. There will be no afternoon service. The public is invited to attend.

October 2

BLOOD DRIVE, 1-6 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Red Oak. Wylliesburg Baptist Church is the sponsor.

October 7

OPPORTUNITY FUND SKEET CLASSIC, 8 a.m. at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox for graduating high school seniors in Southside Electric Cooperative’s (SEC) service area. In just two years, 30 $1,000 scholarships have been given to students headed to college or a trade/technical school whose parents or guardians are served by SEC. The individual registration fee for the skeet shoot is $75, while squads of five can sign up for $325. All participants must provide their own guns and ammunition, and skeet shooters of all levels are welcome. The event is limited to the first 50 participants, who must register in advance. Sponsorship and donation opportunities are available for businesses and individuals who’d like to support this event. Sponsor returns include having a squad in the event, banners, signage and recognition in the event program. CB SWAP MEET AND JAMBOREE, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Phenix Pavilion. Chicken stew, baked goods and drinks will be sold. Stew will be ready between 10-11 a.m. James Tuck will be the stewmaster. HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel UMC. Preacher Mike Teixeira will deliver the message. Special music will be provided by “Worm and Bud” and Sheila Schaefer. Lunch will be served immediately following the service.

October 15

PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, 4 p.m. at Aspen Hill Baptist Church in Brookneal. The preacher for the occasion will be the Rev. James Holcomb, pastor of the Beautiful Plains Baptist Church in Charlotte Court House. He will be accompanied with his choir, ushers and church family. Repast will be served after the service. Come and be blessed.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL, 7 p.m. at Lunenburg County Courthouse Lawn. Tri-County Community Action Agency, Inc. will host a candlelight vigil to bring awareness to domestic violence in the community. The vigil is also for victims of domestic violence and those lost to domestic violence. For more information, call (434) 572-1135.

COW BREEDING TRAINING COURSE, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at The BARN facility in Buckingham.

VETERAN FARMING CONFERENCE, at Hudson Heritage Farms in Halifax. The conference is geared towards veterans already involved in agriculture and veterans interested in or new to farming.
