Welcoming opportunities for growth

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors recently approved a conditional use permit for Par 5 Development to construct a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General store in Wylliesburg.

This is an exciting announcement for residents who live on that end of the county.

Instead of having to travel to surrounding towns to pick up a few things, citizens will now be able to drive up the road and find a variety of items in one location.

It is quite helpful that the proposed location on Hebron Church Road is also conveniently placed near the existing Tastee Freez.

I applaud supervisors for giving the green light to help make this project a reality.

As a Drakes Branch resident, the opening of the most recent Dollar General in the county has been a delight to the residents in this community.

It has been so refreshing being able to grab a few items without making an extra trip to another area.

Par 5’s Attorney Kerry Hutcherson said the addition of the store in the county would help create jobs and increase the commercial tax base. It would also fit the comprehensive plan’s commercial growth corridor in the area.

Currently, the county has three Dollar General stores located in Keysville, Drakes Branch and Charlotte Court House.

Our county has done a good job welcoming these opportunities for growth.

American businessman James Cash Penney, also known for the famous store J.C. Penney, said “growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.”

I hope that our residents and county officials can continue to work together to identify even more potential growth opportunities for our area in the future.
