The Appomattox Juniors 32 Children of the Confederacy hosted the Virginia Division Convention at the Appomattox Inn and Suites June 9-10.

On Friday evening participants enjoyed hot dogs, baked beans, roasted potatoes, an ice cream social, games and crafts on the patio, according to a press release.

Our own Laural Williams was elected Virginia division president, Autumn Shook was elected Virginia division chaplain, Faith Daniel was elected Virginia division treasurer and Austin Shook, the convention chairman, was elected chairman of the nominating committee.”

Williams was awarded the Katherine Whittaker Award for Most Outstanding Children of the Confederacy Girl, first place for best poem and first place for best essay on the Battle of Five Forks.

Shook was awarded first place for the best drawing on a Confederate subject. The chapter was awarded the best scrapbook and the best yearbook.

The Children of the Confederacy Memorial Service was held at the UDC Confederate Cemetery on Route 24, to honor the 18 Confederate soldiers and one Union solider interred there that fell on the last days of fighting.
