Ponytails sweep district

The Charlotte County Ponytails All-Star team won the Dixie Softball Ponytails District 5 Tournament that it hosted over the weekend. The squad faced the Halifax All-Star team each day, winning the first contest 9-7. Tiara Hurt pitched all six innings and threw two strikeouts in that game. On offense, Hurt, Courtney Harmon, Kate Hamilton and Ashley Noblin recorded one hit apiece. Amy Grissom had two hits. The Charlotte Ponytails won the second game against Halifax 12-5. Sydney Mason pitched all six innings, throwing four strikeouts. Hurt, Harmon, Cat Battle, Hamilton and Ella Schreckengost each had one hit on offense. Mason registered multiple hits, including one double and one triple. Ashley Nelson had a double, and Misha Clark hit a home run. The Charlotte Ponytails also won the sportsmanship award. They will go on to play in the state tournament in South Hill on July 14.
