Fireworks are ready to be lit for Independence Day on Tuesday.

The community is invited to the Red Hill Patrick Henry National Memorial as it holds its 40th annual Independence Day.

“We have events from 3-9 p.m. and that includes live music,” Red Hill Development Assistant Caitlin Curtis said. “This year we have Cold Creek coming and they will be performing from 4-7 p.m.,”

The celebration also includes face painting and kids games, kettle corn, cotton candy and food provided by the Charlotte County Lion’s Club and Midway Baptist Church.

Participants are asked to bring blankets or lawn chairs to view the fireworks, which will occur around 9:15 p.m.

The cost of the event is $10 per car.

“We also have living history and interpretations in the building and Patrick Henry Jolly, who is Patrick Henry’s fifth great-grandson, will be here dressed as Patrick Henry and will give the ‘Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death’ speech at 7 p.m.,” Curtis said.

The celebration will be located at 1250 Red Hill Road in Brookneal in Charlotte County.

The Meherrin Volunteer Fire and Rescue will hold its annual Independence Day celebration July 8.

According to the organization’s Facebook page, stew will be available at 11 a.m., bands will begin playing at 2 p.m. and fireworks will begin after dark.
