Girls State Chairman Joy Crawford, as a representative of the Keysville American Legion Auxiliary Unit 260, presented Girls State attendees Italy Gayles, Lalainya Allen and Casey Early with an appreciation certificate for completing the Girls State Program at Longwood University last June.
This year, we worked again with Drew Hall, Randolph-Henry High School’s guidance counselor, to search and choose new candidates for the Girls State Program to be held June 18-25 at Longwood University.
This is a weeklong program of actual participation by young women to create the governance of cities and state. It’s an amazing week focused on responsible citizenship, leadership and learning about political process. To qualify, the delegates to Girls State must be completing their junior year in high school. The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor the cost of one girl to attend. We also solicit other organizations to sponsor delegates.
