Statesman take record to 6-0

Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity baseball team continued its strong start to the 2017 season Monday when it routed host Cumberland High School 12-0, improving its overall record to 6-0. The Statesmen have outscored their opponents 39-1. Leading R-H on offense Monday were senior Joshua Jones, pictured above, and junior Carter Strickland, each of whom had three hits and two RBIs. Senior Chase Barksdale had two hits, as did junior Jordan Jones, who added two RBIs, with senior Kendrik Goldman adding two more. On Friday, the Statesmen achieved a 3-0 home win against Park View High School, of South Hill. Joshua Jones registered three hits. Also recording hits were Barksdale and juniors Dylan Payne, Russell Schmidt and Jackson Harding. Senior Bradford Webb got the win on the mound, providing 5 and 2/3rd innings of shutout pitching, including seven strikeouts. Randolph-Henry hosts Nottoway High School on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
