R-H starts with pair of wins

The Randolph-Henry High School varsity baseball team opened its 2017 season with a 10-0 home win against Bluestone High School on Thursday and a hard-fought 3-0 road win against Central Lunenburg High School on Friday. On Thursday, the Statesmen produced 12 hits, led by Carter Strickland, Josh Jones and Chase Barksdale with two apiece. Raleigh Duffer and Eli Moore shined on the mound, combining to throw a five-inning shutout. Duffer, pictured above, earned the win and had 11 strikeouts. On Friday, Bradford Webb was the winner on the mound, allowing no runs and throwing six strikeouts in six innings. Hits were hard to come by for the Statesmen, but they got more than one apiece from Strickland, Josh Jones and Jordan Jones, the latter of whom scored two runs. Josh Jones pitched the seventh inning and retired all three batters he faced. R-H (2-0) visits Amelia County High School on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Park View High School, of South Hill, on Friday at 7 p.m.
