Charlotte County Public Schools’ (CCPS) participation in the Virginia School Board Association’s (VSBA) Green Schools Challenge has netted the division with another gold certification for the work it’s doing to involve students and its facilities in helping the environment.

Division Superintendent Dr. Nancy Leonard said the Green Schools Challenge has been in existence for about seven years. The division has participated for many of the years, she said.

“For the past two years we were awarded with the gold certification, which recognizes conservation of resources within the school system, educational programs which teach students about conservation and innovative programs that CCPS offers, such as the Land Lab at Randolph-Henry,” Leonard said.

According to the Go Green Virginia website, school divisions participating in the challenge complete individual challenges to receive “green points,” which go toward the division’s certification.

According to a VSBA press release, certification falls into four different classes: green, silver, gold and platinum. Gold certification, awarded to divisions that earn between 150 and 174 green points, is the second-highest certification.
