Francis Rebecca Scott Smith, 94, of Drakes Branch, died February 12, 2017 in Lynchburg.  She was born October 5, 1922, from the union of Whitfield Scott and Susie Tucker Scott. She was the second child of that union. Four siblings, Nelson Scott, Mary Scott Grant, Andrew Scott, and Elizabeth Scott Clark preceded her in death. She was married to the late Clarence Smith Sr.

She leaves behind two children, Joanne Scott Crosby of Baltimore, MD and Clarence S. Smith Jr. of Drakes Branch; seven grandchildren, Benjamin F. Poteat, Sylvia J. Dailey Carden, Tracey D. Smith, Henry Barksdale, Antoinette L. Barksdale, Leslie N. Barksdale, and Twanda C. Smith; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, the Reverend Dr. James E. Scott of Saxe, the Reverend Whitfield Scott (Inez) of Petersburg, and Deacon Charlie L. Scott (Rachel) of Clover, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church in Saxe with interment in the church cemetery.
