Emmit Royal “Pop” Mason, 80, of Brookneal, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at home.  He was the husband of the late Patricia Ann DeJarnette Mason. Pop was born in Charlotte County on March 2, 1936 a son of the late Lewis Emmit Mason and Mattie Hailey Mason. He was a member of Staunton River Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Foster Fuels after 43 years of employment.

He is survived by one son, Lewis Hunter “LH” Mason (fiancée Hope Godsey) of Nathalie; one daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Mason (Kevin Roller) of Nathalie; five grandchildren, Colton Mason, Alyssa Guthrie, Alex Hodnett, Mason Hodnett, and Courtney Godsey; a brother-in-law, Wayne DeJarnette of Nathalie; a number of nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Herbert Gayle King and Nancy June Dunn. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and David Mason and one sister, Betty Compton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 23 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Matthew Killmon with interment to follow in the DeJarnette Family Cemetery in Nathalie.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 22 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal and at the residence other times.
