Support our new gym

January seems to be a popular time of year when fitness aficionados and newbies alike unite with the common goal of getting in shape. While the task may seem simple for some, in a small rural area like Charlotte County, finding appropriate fitness facilities can be daunting.

Recently, Apex Day Support Services in Charlotte Court House collaborated to open the Apex Community Fitness Center.

I can’t tell you how exciting it is to finally have a gym back in the county. Previously, many were required to travel to neighboring towns such as Farmville, South Boston or Appomattox for these facilities.

Alternatively, others were forced to work out at home or run along busy roads, creating a potential safety hazard.

After attending the open house last Wednesday, I’ve concluded that the amount of work the Apex Day Support participants and staff placed into opening the new gym should be commended.

The gym boasts a cozy feel, staying along the lines of a more personal work out space.

I would imagine that those who feel intimidated by a large, open gym and a line of never-ending treadmills would find the Apex Community Fitness Center quite welcoming.

While the Apex Community Fitness Center will provide a wonderful service to the county, it will more importantly give the participants of Apex Day Support Services valuable work experience. The participants will be responsible for a number of roles, involving the daily operations of the gym.

In my opinion, these are the partnerships that make Charlotte County such a great place to live and work.

The new gym will give back to the community in a great way, and it is the community that should give back to the participants by supporting their efforts to operate the new facility.

As a community, let’s support the Apex Fitness Center.
