Dominion Virginia Power recently established a scholarship at Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) for the Power Line Worker Training Program. Keith Harkins, SVCC vice president for workforce development, and Mary Jane Elkins, SVCC foundation director, are pictured accepting the donation presented on Dec. 20 at a graduation ceremony of the program. The program offers 11 weeks of intensive training at the site at Pickett Park in Blackstone. Students complete a Commercial Driver’s License, as well as learning climbing techniques, safety, electrical circuits, tools of the trade and other curriculum from the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
