Garland Carter Thomas

Garland Carter Thomas, 84, of Charlotte CH, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eustace Thomas Sr. and Leonora Carter Thomas, one brother, William Eustace Thomas Jr., one granddaughter, Laurie Ann Holt, and one grandson, Tucker Holt.

Garland is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Tucker Thomas; four daughters, Wanda Thomas Bolton (Matt), Debbie Thomas Clements (John), Pat Thomas Holt (Edwin), and Bonnie Thomas Trent (Ted); 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Lee (Richard), Chris Holt (Crystal), John E. Clements Jr. (Rebecca), Suzanne Driskill (Eric), Melanie Currin (Greg), Matthew Bolton (Michele), Christine Clements, Michael Trent (Blair), Rice Holt (Sara), Tyler Holt (Hailey), and Sarah Riepe (Creigh); 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was a chartered member of the Charlotte County Rescue Squad. Garland was appointed in 1972 by Governor Holton and in 1976 by Governor Godwin to serve on the Pork Commission.  Garland spent his life doing what he loved best, farming.

A funeral service was held Sunday, January 8 at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home, Keysville, with interment in the Oak View Presbyterian Church Cemetery Charlotte C.H.
