The Charlotte County Historical and Genealogical Society will turn its headquarters at the Drakes Branch Museum, 4849 Main St., into an old-fashioned winter wonderland on Saturday when it hosts its annual Old Fashion Christmas.

The event will take place from 1-5 p.m., and include a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with food, refreshments and more.

“We’ve been doing it for quite a few years,” said Bea King, an event organizer and founder of the historical society. “They love it because we do the old fashioned Mr. and Mrs. Claus with the original outfits.”

Children, along with adults and animals alike, can take photos with Santa and his bride.

Those who want photos should bring their own cameras to mark the occasion.

“People bring their animals by. They get to take pictures with Santa Claus with the animals.” King said. “This is a fun event. This is like our end-of-year (event). We’ve worked hard.”

Food and refreshments at the event will include an old-time cream puff tree, cakes, pies, deviled eggs, meatballs, punch and hot chocolate.

“Every kid gets a candy cane,” King said, or receives a sticker if they don’t want a cane.

The museum’s gift shop — which offers a plethora of gifts surrounding historic Charlotte — will also be open, making Christmas shopping easy. Available items include scenic and landmark photos of yore, handmade gift bags, ornaments and cards of historical places.

Books, photos and mugs are also for sale. All proceeds go to the historical society.

King will also make her special Christmas Jelly, offering it to those who attend Saturday.

To make it more festive, she encourages those who’d like to play the part of an elf to attend. “The more the better,” King said of the prospects for Santa’s helpers.
