Just in time for Thanksgiving, when many gather with family and friends to celebrate with a bountiful meal, Southside Virginia Community College’s (SVCC) Agribusiness program and SVCC’s Student Services, with the support of Virginia Farm Bureau, will show a free screening of Farmland. The film will be shown on both the Alberta and Keysville SVCC campuses at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21. The film will come at the conclusion of the inaugural Panther Prep Advising Day, a free event open to the public.

Classes are cancelled so that current students can take full advantage of the event, which runs from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. In addition to current students, residents in the college’s 10-county service area are invited to attend the event in the Workforce Development Center on either campus to learn more about programs and services offered through the college.

Farmland is intended to give an inside look at today’s modern American agriculture. Many Americans have never visited a farm or ranch or spoken with the people who raise the food they eat and the fiber that becomes the clothes they wear. Farmland takes a close-up look at the lives of six farmers, all in their 20s, who run their own agricultural businesses. Award winner, James Moll, who shares the farmers’ passion their chosen profession, directs the film showcasing them utilizing skills passed down through the generations, yet evolving to modern technological practices.
