David Michael Velez, 57, of Drakes Branch, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Velez was born in Lorain, OH on October 18, 1959 to the late Sergio Ramos and Ruth Shreeves Velez. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved collecting model cars and music.

He is survived his wife of 33 years, Rebecca Ann Spelmen Velez of Drakes Branch; three children, Christopher and wife, Christina of Rice, Brandi of Drakes Branch, and Romulus and wife, Summer of Farmville; one grandson, William Velez; two sisters, Teresa and Marie of Ohio; two brothers, Pete of Texas and John of Rhode Island; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernice and Leroy Swartzel of Drakes Branch; two sisters-in-law, Renee Waters and Roberta Thomas; one brother-in-law, Ronald Spelman and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
