R-H varsity girls volleyball goes 1-1

The Randolph-Henry High School varsity girls volleyball team split a pair of James River District contests last week as they entered the second half of their season.

The Lady Statesmen emerged from a hard-fought first set to defeat visiting Central Lunenburg in straight sets — 27-25, 25-9, 25-9 — on Thursday. Annie Sandridge led the effort with eight kills, seven aces and 15 digs, while Hannah Pascuita added three kills and four aces.

On Sept. 27 against visiting Nottoway, Randolph-Henry lost 13-25, 20-25, 21-25.

Despite the loss, the Lady Statesmen had a balanced team effort, led by four kills and three aces from Sandridge and three kills and three aces from Pascuita.

R-H travels to Goochland on Thursday before hosting Nelson County on Monday and Amelia on Tuesday.
