The Randolph-Henry High School cross country teams traveled to compete against Cumberland, Amelia and Goochland on Aug. 31 in the Cumberland 60 West Challenge, which featured some of the best runners in the district.

Weathering the sweltering heat, the R-H boys team finished a close third behind Cumberland and Goochland and were led by Chris Nichols, who came in fifth individually, Nasheim Pettus, who came in sixth, and Michael Nichols, who came in 11th.

The R-H girls team finished second behind a dominant Goochland team and were led by Alena Latysheva, who took ninth.

Both R-H teams have shown consistent improvement, and their coaches expect them to be in contention for top spots in postseason races.

Randolph-Henry hosts Bluestone, Cumberland and Nottoway on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
