Mr. Oscar Nathaniel Skates Sr., age 52, formerly of Phenix, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Front Royal, Virginia.  He was the son of Mrs. Carolyn Matthews Skates and the late Mr. Franklin Nathaniel Skates.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Carrington Skates; children, Oscar Nathaniel Skates Jr., Jessica Shawneice Carrington, Carmellia Carrington, all of Front Royal, Sharonda Yvette Skates of Lynchburg, and Antonio Nathaniel Pannell; his mother, Mrs. Carolyn Skates; sisters and brothers, Franklin Skates of Muskie, Oklahoma, Curtis Royal of Harlem, New York, Amanda Dews (John) of Madison Heights, Vatrice Skates of Appomattox, Rodna Skates (Robin) of Woodbridge, Mary Skates of Peoria, Arizona, Tyrone Skates of Roanoke, and Tasia Skates of Phenix; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal with interment in Nazareth Baptist Church Cemetery of Phenix. Condolences may be expresses at www.JeffressFuneralHome.com.
