Mr. George Herbert Morton Sr., age 88 of Phenix, died on July 16, 2016, at his residence. He was the son of Claudie Morton and Minnie White Morton. 

He is survived by his wife, Sallie Jones Morton; sons, Johnathan H. Morton of the home and George H. Morton, Jr. (Vanessa) of Farmville; two stepchildren, Kimberly Bell (Chris) of Greensboro, North Carolina and James Jones of Phenix; two children that he reared as his own, Christina and Aaron; grandchildren, Candice Shavonne, George, Elijah and Noah; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nannie Jones of Phenix, brothers-in-law, Fred Jones of Richmond, Leroy Jones (Vanessa) of Rustburg, Jesse Jones of Charlotte Court House and Ronnie Jones (Kathilla) of Lynchburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. Louis Baptist Church of Phenix with interment in the church cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.JeffressFuneralHome.com. Arrangements were by Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Brookneal.
