A special memorial service was held on Buggs Island Lake on May 30 at 10 a.m. Approximately 100 people attended.

Jeff Watts led in prayer, while Douglas Mcquire presented the colors.

Other veterans who participated were Bryen Lewis, Army; Frank Lewis, Army; Waht Townsend, Army; Randy Mottles, Navy; Jerry Sanilsbury, Army; Melvin Compton, U.S. Navy; and Jerry Marshall, U.S. Marines.

Larry Holte called the names of the veterans. The guest speaker was Anthony Doyle Lewis. He told about his experience when he provided service for 25 years.

His wife, Kathy, told about her experience as a career officer wife. Anthony and Kathy reside in Farmville.

A special offering was taken this year. The offering will honor Henry Eugene Russell. The offering will be utilized for playground equipment in honor of each person present.
