With a regular-season concluding victory over Wylliesburg, the Charlotte County Rec Team 1 secured the best record for Charlotte County Dixie Youth Majors this year.

“We went out there with hopefully having a good team and being able to compete, and actually they went above and beyond our expectations,” the team’s coach, Jeff Rapole said of his players.

They finished with a record of 10-1, their only loss coming against the Charlotte Court House team, which has been the perennial first-place squad in the county.

The Charlotte County Rec team defeated the Charlotte Court House team twice during the season.

Explaining how his players were able to come out on top with the best record this year, Rapole said, “Heart. All of them played with heart. Every kids that plays with their heart, they play team baseball. It’s not about any individual. It’s about a team. All nine players on that field at one time matter.”

Five players from Rapole’s team were selected to the Charlotte County Majors All-Star team that will be playing in the district tournament this Friday in Blackstone. Rapole will help coach the team.

Deflecting praise to his regular season squad, Rapole also gave praise to the other Charlotte County Rec team that participated.

“I’m very proud of all the Charlotte County Rec teams,” he said. “They have two teams, and I’m very proud of all the kids.”
